The Equators LIVE – 30 years on The Equators are back together, reformed and ready to hit the road again. The Equators are the real deal, true Ska pioneers, and their eagerly anticipated show is guaranteed to get the crowd moving.

Formed in 1977 by the brothers Bailey (Donald, Leo & Rocky).The Equators were signed by Stiff Records when spotted performing alongside fellow local legends; The Beat. Their career with Stiff Records began with The Equators backing the Jamaican ska-reggae great, Desmond Dekker!!!

Will Holland is one of the most talented and prolific artists in the world of alternative dance music today. Recording under various guises, Will first found acclaim as Quantic. As well as Quantic and the Quantic Soul Orchestra Will is one half of The Limp Twins, a duo he formed with Russ Porter. Initially a deejay partnership, it wasn’t long before they started recording, with Russ taking on the vocal duties and Will adding the magic with his savvy production.
Quantic released a two-disc ‘One Offs, Remixes and B Sides’ album in 2005, which featured a collaboration with Mr Scruff and remixes by Pilooski and Seiji; and his fifth long player, ‘An Announcement To Answer’ followed in 2006, cementing his reputation as a 21st Century Quincy Jones.

Quantic regularly DJs across the world (and we mean the World not just America, Europe and Japan) spreading the unique Quantic sound with each set. His music has been featured on countless compilations and appeared in TV soundtracks, and as ever he has a busy schedule of remixes from respected labels across the board. In 2007 he relocated to Colombia, where he has had a studio built and is continuing to create exciting music at a characteristically prolific rate, taking inspiration from the heady mix of rhythms and sounds on his doorstep.

2008 saw a new project come to life, under the moniker Quantic Presenta Flowering Inferno, a summery dub and reggae-inspired affair with an authentic tropical vibe. The album, ‘Death Of The Revolution’ came out in July 2008 and features Will Holland on various instruments with contributions from a host of Latin American musicians, including the legendary Peruvian pianist Alfredo Linares. This album pricked up the ears of many tastemakers and fans alike, including Gilles Peterson and Mark Lamarr (BBC Radio 2), who have been excited and curious about the new progression in Quantic’s music – and impressed that it sounds as stunning and original as any Quantic album to date.

2009 Quantic and his Combo Bárbaro, a handpicked band of internationally renowned musicians set to take over from The Quantic Soul Orchestra in realising the next stage of Holland’s musical vision.

This an exciting new event for Birmingham and the West Midlands. Reggae has always been a big part of the area’s rich and diverse cultural melting pot. The explosion of reggae and ska in the region (and across the UK) during the early seventies followed legendary gigs of the time such as Bob Marley at the ODEON. This in turn ingnited the fire of the region’s own scene and subsequent international reggae ambassador’s, with bands such as Steel Pulse and UB40 leading the way.

Today there continues to be a vibrant roots and reggae across the region and Reggae City is an opportunity to pull together the best of the region and splice it together with some of the best national and international talent. It is hoped the event will develop and grow through the support of the city and it’s communities, to be a showcase for the abundance of talent thta is around in today’s reggae scene.

June 11th marks the launch of a new event, Reggae City, Birmingham’s leading reggae and roots party, with a line-up that includes Luciano, Digital Mystikz, Takana Zion and Peter Spence.

Across three venues, upon heavyweight sounds and with peace and harmony in mind Birmingham is set to lively up itself. Saturday, June 11th sees the first Reggae City event running conscious vibes, bringing ital foods and a festival feeling to the Rainbow Warehouse complex in Birmingham.

From 4pm to 4am Reggae City presents some of the finest international Roots, Reggae and Dub artists alongside the best of British and West Midlands talent. The event will also explore the huge influence that Reggae has had on today’s dance and club music scene, expect some of the finest reggae inspired Jungle, Dubstep, and Hip-Hop.

Jibbering proudly presents; a night of live dance floor orientated Hip-Hop with a Funk, Soul and Reggae underbelly!!!

ASM are one of Europe’s fastest emerging Hip Hop acts. They are rapidly making their mark on the scene through their original and boundary-pushing live shows, recently deemed “leaders of the new school” by DJ Vadim (BBE).

Their live showcase is rooted in a unique form of beat production by Fade, DJ Sativo and Lando. The three of them work together on stage with an Akai MPC, Roland SP-404, Micro Korg Keyboard, Flute, Melodica, Korg Kaos Pad, Theremin, a turntable and a scratch mixer to create some of the freshest Soul, Reggae and Funk infused Hip Hop killers around. The music they create forms the perfect backdrop for the talented lyricists, FP the Funky Poet and Green-T, to get busy and experiment with rhymes and back and forth flows in ways that are surely unique in the world of underground hip hop today.

ASM recently featured on the single ‘Positively Inclined’ from French producer Wax Tailor’s album ‘Hope & Sorrow’ which has already sold over 50,000 copies worldwide. Their music video for Positively Inclined was also been taken by MTV France and held a top 40 slot for 6 weeks in the French national airplay charts – a rare achievement for an underground conscious hip hop group. ASM’s debut album ‘Platypus Funk’ features Dj Vadim (BBE Music), Sadat X (Brand Nubian) Wax Tailor (Decon), Wildchild (Stones Throw), Kid Kanevil (First Word) and Bonobo (Ninja tune).

In support we are overjoyed to welcome back Boy Com. This 7 piece Kick-Ass-Party-Hip-Hop collective, rocked the house on their last appearance at the Hare, in support of The Black Seeds.

Their aim is to make you groove till the end of the night and even after you’ve left the venue! From the cheeky to the downright dirty their sound is funked up, reggae tinged party band – you have to catch their rendition of the Jungle Book theme tune!

Boy Com’s debut single ‘Who Needs ‘Em Anyway?’ (Naim Records) is great. The phatest beats, the smoothest basslines and the most roaring brass section you’ve ever heard! There ain’t a chance in hell you won’t love them!
